Super Bliss Balls!

These tasty superfood balls are a powerful snack. Try them next time you want to kick a sugar craving, have a sweet healthy treat after a meal or bring them along as the perfect energy snack when going “balls to the wall” in the great outdoors.

Why is this a “super” ball? Well each of these ingredients is considered a “super food” due to its nutrient density:

— Maca is rich in vitamins B, C and E, and jam-packed with calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous and amino acids. It’s also known to increase energy and stabilize mood.

— Raw cacao, the main ingredient in chocolate,  is a tasty and potent antioxidant. Antioxidants are responsible for stabilizing and destroying free radicals in our cells and tissues. What does that mean? Well they essentially remove and excrete toxins from our body. The build up of free radicals brings a host of health problems — why not remove them with some tasty cacao?

— Chia is high in fiber, omega-3s (brain and joint food), and a high quality, digestible protein, along with many other health benefits. These small seeds are extremely nutrient dense, and will fill you up with high quality sustainable energy.

Side Note: the hardest part is finding the ingredients at the supermarket.  Don’t let this get in the way of making these tasty treats. Go to your local health foods store and ask for help. They will be happy to direct you to all these important ingredients. But this is really a one time hurdle — once you know where the ingredients are, they are fast and easy to make. Plus, these healthy balls are so tasty, they’ll become a staple.

Total prep and cook time is under 15 minutes.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups pitted medjool dates
1 tablespoon chia seeds
½ cup walnuts
½ cup almonds
½ cup pumpkin seeds
1 dollop honey
1 cup raw cacao
1 tablespoon maca powder
shredded coconut (no sugar added)

Directions:

Combine dates, chia seeds, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, honey, cacao & maca into high power blender or food processor. Blend until it looks like brownie mix. You may need to pause the blender/food processor and stir occasionally during this process. Remove and shape into 1.5-inch thick balls. Roll balls into coconut. Double your batch and freeze half, they freeze well. Store in refrigerator. Eat 1 to 2 as an energizing snack –just because they are healthy, does not mean you cannot eat too many!
